"I'm a prostitute robot from the future!" [16 Jul 2009|12:07am]

terrakazama
Since the death of my 360 I've picked up two interests: crochet and westerns.

After my 360's passing, I was bored and figured I'd teach myself how to crochet, since I'd bought a hook previously.

Thus I became a hooker.

Much like most things I get into, I'm now obsessed with it. (For instance, after the first night I spent most of my class imagining myself hooking yarn.) So far I've made a (crappy) bag for my sister, a few balls for my dog, and some other random creations for practice. Currently I'm planning a shoulder bag for myself with a Fallout Shelter symbol on it (need to draw out the pattern) and working on some gifts for my friends. A lot of patterns are still too complicated for me, but with practice the possibilities are endless!

- - - - -

Onto cowboys. )

- - - - -

I also finished Red Alert by Peter Bryant, the book Dr. Strangelove was losely based on. Great book, despite the crappy printing. It made me nervous in a way I don't normally experience when reading. And I have to say Point Lookout is probably my favorite Fallout 3 DLC, perhaps on par with Broken Steel. I was about to play it some more when my 360 died...

Right now I'm taking summer session, and spend 7 hours on campus Tuesday through Thursday in air conditioned rooms during the hottest parts of the day (heh). It's my first time taking no classes related to math or computer science (two philosophy courses: philosophy of religion and theory of knowledge) and it's awesome, especially since both are interesting and one is taught by my favorite professor. Fun times. I could sit and listen to someone engaging talk about philosophy all day.

Okay, I'm blabbering. I want to watch Black Books again.

Forbidden Siren RPG? ... Somewhere? [15 Jul 2009|04:22pm]

forbidden_siren

[antivillainess]
Forbidden Siren appears to have a relatively small fan-base on lj, so this question is a shot in the dark. Anyone know any potential games where Siren's storyline is the main base, allowing both Siren and Original characters? I don't care if it's been elaborated on, srsly, Siren's one of the only games that outright creeps me out. I don't play it alone.

Farewell to Finland [15 Jul 2009|07:45pm]

[ mood | drained ]

We're back in Helsinki for one last night. Tomorrow at the crack of dawn (which cracks very very early here in Finland) we're off again. Parris returns to Ireland, and I head home to the cats, the green chile, and A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. We'll meet again in Montreal. Ah, the jet set life...

Estonia was great, and Turku was fun as well. I hope to write more about all these places once I'm home.

Thanks for all my Finnish friends, new and old, for making this is awonderful trip. Finncon rocks.

More [info]badbadbathhouse fills! It's like they're breeding.

A Matter of Proof. G. Naoto(/Kanji), unnamed daughter. Future-fic. Naoto and her daughter are a bit too much alike for Naoto's tastes.

Underbelly. PG. AU: The Amagi are really a yakuza group.

Divine Intervention. PG. Yosuke tries to set up Chie and Yukiko. He succeeds... sort of.

The Butterfly and the Storm. R. Everyone meets a genderbent version of themselves. Sexings follow.

As always, there is an index over here.

22: Fluid [14 Jul 2009|11:49am]

primroseport
You can balance a sword on the tip of your pinky, keep its point floating in the sky like a steeple over the desert. It will hang there light as a necklace, hang in the air as if caught on a star, needing only the slightest effort to stay upright. You get so used to the balancing act, so good at it, that you can do it while juggling, while working, while socializing, while flirting. Just go on with your existence, dedicating only tiny corrections in the muscles of one finger to defy gravity for one more night.

Until the balance tips.

Then, efforts to counteract the imbalance must be sudden and great as the blade materializes on its descent into something with mass and lethality, something that swings in wild arcs and no longer stops for flesh and bone, careening inexorably to where the blood lives, the wet interstices.

I resisted so well. The first time I let the sword wobble, I supped on Thomas Hardy while his lashed body lay on the stage, and the court chambers were empty. But I hung the blade back on its nail in the sky, and balance was restored.

Then there was the Carthian loudmouth butchered in Elysium, and Hazel wouldn’t let me debase myself on her, nor on Hazel herself, no matter how I negotiated. Balance restored.

And throughout it all, I managed to frolic with Kyra for a couple of weeks or so, and play house with Danice for a little longer, and never once did I drink from them. Bravo.

But the pendulum, the sword, swings suddenly, and when it does, it bears down with all its metal and single-minded design. First, Hazel sparking into hunger, and circling and stalking me, such that I knew there was no escape save for another war-like waltz which promised to be more final than our first one. I negotiated again, but this time there was something she needed. I told myself it was only a momentary wobble in the balance, that I was saving myself from being savaged by this cantankerous bitch of a Daeva, who would take from me whether or not I willingly gave her what she craved, and besides, a chance to taste her? Why not?

Incidentally, she was wrong. She still tastes like liquor. Dark and spicy, amber-stained barrels. Old vices don’t flush away so quickly, it seems—or is that the Old Wine tasting how I want it to taste?

But then there was the confrontation with the cats. A whirl of black fur, a hundred scratches and bites, then blind fever-dreams full of mewling, hisses, caterwauls and gunshot wounds leaking the stench of brimstone, mercifully drowned in the richest, darkest, sweetest—no, sweet is a wretched word for the quality of the substance, sweet is too sweet, it is a word without power, without the terrible potency and the bone-melting satisfaction of the stuff, which overtook my own blood and coated me, an embryonic fluid through which I awoke, still drinking, sometimes crazy with hunger, but remembering still the heady, dizzying ichor infusing me, and the feeling which persisted afterwards, the feeling about /her/, which I cannot put into words, not yet, not ever, most likely.

And so the sword was arcing down so slowly, the way something far away and as large as a mountain would tip over, and I didn’t know it was falling until the scent of Danice’s wounds wafted to me like a lazy, careless candle flame touching black powder.

Woosh, boom. Black powder may be slow, but it gets there in the end.

How lucky, how goddamn fortunate that she was there, my sire, my mother, so that I could drink from her and not any of these Daeva women who would love to have me by the sleeve permanently if they could manage it. Even if she was reluctant to let me. Even if, in truth, she does not favor me, does not care much for me, finds me a failure, ugly. It doesn’t matter. I’ve lived with that inequality before, over forty years ago, the distance, the coldness. It was enough then, it is enough now.

But we were interrupted—cats! I thought. More of these fucking cats, ripping into me, opening me up with their blasted needle teeth and their kaleidoscopic paws stuffed with far too many claws, but it was not a cat; it was a bat. The bat.

Kien.

She’s my mother, my goddamn mother, my second one but the only one who matters, the only /person/ who truly matters, and ever will. If we want to share, we share. Who is he to half-kill me for doing what it is only natural to do? To wait and want and be mostly ignored while being spoiled at the same time? To take what is given?

Who is he?

He wants his painting. I’ll get it. Oh, I’ll get it.

Who gets it after that is anyone’s guess.

Another ficdump~ [13 Jul 2009|09:41pm]

[chisotahn]
Lots of fic posts lately! Allow me to add to the pile with some new fics I've done since the last time I posted here.

Echoes That Dwell; Spoilers for 4/15, fill for [info]badbadbathhouse. Yosuke encounters an unexpected reminder of the past.

Precious Things; Good ending spoilers, fill for [info]badbadbathhouse. Yosuke and Nanako take a train ride and have mishaps and adventures along the way.

Microfic Fiesta!; No spoilers. A series of three fluffy gen microfics - one features Souji and Yosuke; the other two feature Souji and Nanako.

And a pile of Souji/Yosuke fics:

The Little Things; Good ending / Tower s-link spoilers, fill for [info]badbadbathhouse. Written for Yosuke's birthday - sometimes the little things matter the most. Pre-relationship but subtexty.

Samegawa Summer; Very vague June spoilers. Minific, established relationship fluff, not serious business in the least. Summer in Inaba is too damn hot; Souji and Yosuke look for a more effective way to beat the heat.

The Fine Art of Distraction; Good ending spoilers. Minific, established relationship fluff, not serious business in the least. Summer homework is terrible. Being forced to do it - when there are much more amusing alternatives - is even worse. Rebellion is clearly the only answer!

Meep! II: Early-Morning Boogaloo; Good ending spoilers, a kind-of fill for [info]badbadbathhouse. Minific, still more established relationship fluff - timeskip to boot! Souji, Yosuke, and a rather bratty kitty.

Tanabata Wishes; Spoilers up to 7/7. Yosuke is exhausted and stressed after a grueling week at work. Souji to the rescue! Even more established relationship fluff.

I guess I've just been in a fluff-writing mood lately, what can I say? Enjoy! ♥

Hey there :) I have just finished reading Storm of Swords (in German, though) and I'm officially addicted to ASoIaF now ^^
Therefore, I present you this wallpaper I made of two of my favourite characters, Cersei and Jaime Lannister.

I chose Nicole Kidman as Cersei and Gabriel Aubry as Jaime, I think they fit perfectly :P

Hope you like it!!

Off to Estonia [12 Jul 2009|10:20pm]

[ mood | happy ]

Finncon is fini. Parris and I have just staggereed back to our hotel room from the dead reindeer party. The party is still going strong and we would love to have stayed longer... till sunset, at least... but we have to be up early tomorrow to catch a ferry to Estonia, where I'll be doing a signing in Tallinn. Then the next day it's back across the sea to Helsinki again, just long enough to set off for Turku, where I've got another signing.

Finncon was terrific. The warmth and hospitality we've found here has completely ruined my image of Finland as a frozen wasteland. Who knew? The sauna was fun too. And then there were all the cute anime girls in costume offering free hugs...

Thanks to all my Finnish friends. Now off to Estonia!

... Well, naturally, a ten or eleven-year-old scanner isn't going to perform nearly as well as a two or three year old scanner.

I just thought it was a difference in DPI, but clearly, it's not. Provided, the image fragmenting into five different sections and turning pieces randomly green or purple might have also been an indicator, ahem-hem. Black-and-white isn't so bad - just grainy, which is a pain if I'm trying to scan lineart. Color? HA. [sob] Forget about it.

Alas, the salvaged scanner for the Mac isn't performing much better -- streaks, massive moire, random cast of whatever color it chooses. Not sure how much younger the thing is, but it's at least not the shade of aged yellow as the one I'm clobbering into working use right now... still going to give it the damndest try, but it might just be a sad fact of the years. Well, not 'might', it probably simply 'is' -- but after the new HD I aquired this week, I've got to conserve some money.

Fan Fiction - Snow from Yesterday [09 Jul 2009|10:05pm]

[fic_jargon]
Title: Snow from Yesterday
Rating: PG
Word Count: 7,210
Genre: Crack, romance, crackity crackity crack.
Prompt: An updated, extended version of the fill for the [info]badbadbathhouse: Prince!Yukiko/Princess!Chie, role reversal.
Summary: "Once upon the time in the Kingdom of Spring, King Teddie and Queen Souji had a daughter. Her name was Chie."

Although Princess Chie wasn’t beautiful like her father or handsome like her mother, she was really very cute. She loved watching the knights jostle and spar in the tournaments inside the TV—well, not inside the TV. I’m sorry, I really don’t know that much about medieval Europe.

Huh? Where would they have a tournament, then? ... Well, they have a very large castle. It’s very Romanesque, and has many glass keys. And in some of the rooms there are knights who wait to ambush unsuspecting passersby—.

(“Chie! You’re distracting me.”)
